Taft Hall – Corridor

UIC has initiated a project to renovate approximately 27,000 GSF of space on the first, second and third floors of Taft Hall, including formal learning spaces, informal learning spaces/lounges, the Arab American Cultural Center, and restrooms. Additionally, to provide an accessible path to the third floor of Taft Hall, a new enclosed walkway will be added to connect to the elevator lobby in adjacent Burnham Hall.

Along with the physical spaces being renovated, this project will include comprehensive upgrades of building systems including the exterior wall, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, fire protection, audio-visual, and information technology.

The project will be designed to achieve LEED Gold certification and the feasibility of achieving net-zero energy consumption will be evaluated.

Town Hall Meetings

Since this project has a broad range of stakeholders, the project process will include several campus-wide engagements to share information and gather feedback. Planning, Sustainability and Project Management will co-present information with Gensler, the contracted architecture firm, at three town hall meetings. Following each meeting, the presented information will be shared on this webpage.

The first town hall meeting for the Taft Hall renovation was held on August 24, 2023. A recording of the presentation can be viewed here.

The second town hall meeting for the Taft Hall renovation was held on October 19, 2023. A recording of presentation can be viewed here.

The third and final town hall meeting for the Taft Hall renovation was held on November 28, 2023. A recording of the presentation can be viewed here.
