Overview

PSPM maintains an accurate record of campus space, facilities and supporting infrastructure concerning issues that pertain to space management, allocation, and utilization. PSPM also oversees UIC’s facility archives, maps and provides design support to the campus.

Facility Information Management (FIM) Services Heading link

PSPM provides the following Facility Information Management services:

FIMWeb is UIC’s space inventory system. It provides relevant facilities-related information for issues involving space management, allocation, and utilization. FIM staff members maintain a comprehensive database that documents the approximately 16 million square feet of gross space and over 13 million square feet of assignable space in 194 UIC buildings. There are over 44,000 separate rooms listed in the official inventory, which is managed through the Archibus space module. The section also maintains a library of building floor plans in AutoCAD format.

FIM conducts various levels of inventory updates to keep current the floor plans, reported functional utilization, and occupancy for all spaces which are either owned or leased by the university. FIM also supports campuswide efforts to expedite access to past, present and future records related to UIC facilities. The Project and Facility Archives managed by FIM include, but are not limited to: minutes, correspondence, memoranda, financial records, published materials, photographs, drawings, maps and sound recordings.

FIM is also responsible for the upkeep and archival of all facilities drawings produced internally and externally for the University of Illinois Chicago. Most, if not all, drawings used for the campus buildings and grounds reside as a master set in the CAD and Archive section. These drawings consist of original renderings, CAD files, and digitally scanned drawings.

FIM conducts various levels of inventory updates to maintain current floor plans, reported functional utilization, and occupancy for all spaces which are either owned or leased by the university (over 16 million square feet of space in 194 buildings across 250 acres). FIM develops space studies, reports and surveys associated with the teaching, research, public service and administrative functions of UIC. Some specific examples of reporting include: space utilization reporting, administrative cost reporting, code compliance, and state/federal reporting to entities like the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.

FIM maintains archives that support campus-wide efforts to expedite access to facility-related records. These efforts include:

  • Upkeep and archival of all construction drawings produced internally and externally for UIC
  • Other records include but are not limited to: project manuals, material specifications, minutes, correspondence, memoranda, financial records, real estate records, published materials, photographs and sound recordings

FIM creates and implements policies and procedures necessary to maintain accurate facility, space and capital project data. One example is the oversight of the Policy and Procedures documents on Distribution of Building Floorplans and Facility Records.

In addition to maintaining UIC’s official maps, including Visitor, Facility, Accessibility, Campus Boundary, UIC Smoke-free Zone, Pedestal, Utilities, and interactive (maps.uic.edu), FIM also provides custom mapping support to the campus.
