Strategy 2.0 Data Dashboard

Each solution of the CAIP is measured by a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Bound) goal. PSPM is responsible for providing guidance and best practices to the staff responsible for implementing the goals, and for tracking progress. Data is collected each fall for the previous fiscal year (FY) and a report is prepared in early spring. The baseline for the goals is FY2019.

2.1.1: Indirect Power Purchase Agreement Heading link

SMART Goal

  • Procure renewable energy equal to 15% of purchased electricity by 2021; increasing 5% more each year through 2028; increasing 2.5% each year from 2029-2050.

Status: Not on Track

UIC has not yet entered into an IPPA to procure renewable energy.

2.1.2: On-site PPA Solar Rooftop Generation Heading link

SMART Goal

  • Contract for at least 0.5 MW capacity of onsite solar by the end of calendar year 2020.

Status: Not on Track

Current and planned projects account for about .18 MW of installed solar capacity by 2028, short of the 1 MW goal. Currently, there are solar installations on Lincoln and Douglas halls. A 69.3 kW solar installation is planned for the Design and Research Learning Center building in July 2023. To forecast for this goal, the capacity of one planned PV installation was added to two existing installations.

2.2.1: On-site Power Plant Electricity Production Heading link

SMART Goal

  • Maintain cogeneration of electricity at a level of 125,000 MWh/year.
  • Present proposal to add capacity through sustainable fuel sources to OVCAS by the end of FY2023.

Status: on Track

UIC is on track to significantly increase the energy generated onsite, reducing emissions because less energy is wasted to transmission losses. This forecast (light blue bars) is based on the trend between FY 2017 and 2021. This time period was chosen because it coincides with a Utilities and Energy Services policy to generate more electricity on-site through cogeneration.
